The American Comes of Age in a Modern World

The first year we went to Rivercane. We arrived into their 25th anniversary year.  There was a great flurry of delight when the announcement came that Eustace would be visiting that afternoon.  Eustace was an old friend to many of the folks and had come to the event often when he had more time.  He regaled the group with stories  that lasted all afternoon and into the evening.

It seems that he visited New York City and met Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love).  She wrote a piece for GQ. (No, the irony is not lost on me.) The article is not child friendly.

I did find her comments about coming of age to be worth thinking thorough a bit more.
