Roots of Complicated Words.

Knowing prefixes and sufixes are great ways to help figure out words.  Montessori students work with prefixes, suffixes, and roots in the first year lower el.  The expectations advance over the years.  Somehow I ended up with the Vocabulary from Classical Roots books.

The kids have been moving forward. They, being Montessori children, have created a work. DW got out the mailing labels and cut scrap paper into strips. She then wrote the prefix on one label and the root on the other. They do the matching part and then they quiz each other on the definitions.

I’m waiting to see, but I expect them to begin to make up new words and define them using their knowledge.
