Understatement – 15 minutes of writing

In the ongoing discussion of rhetorical devices, we’ve pulled out day two’s whopper: Understatement.

The older guys had a discussion of the Modest Proposal’s title.  They read the introduction to the essay and then sat with Ms. ER and discussed whether the proposal was modest.

The younger guys wrote understatements like:

The Oak Steak House had a limited variety of steaks. (DW)

American Idol had just a couple of people performing. (DW)

Our team won all our games except one game; it wasn’t a big deal. (AR)

Watching the man bungii jumping off the empire state building didn’t really draw a big crowd. (BR)
