LR’s Creative Writing

You are a poet and the friend of the dance instructor in this painting.  Your friend has asked you to write a poem expressing your impressions of the class at work.  He will use the poem as the central idea for the class recital.

Edgar Degas, The Dance Class, 1973-1876

Dancers dancers everywhere,

many bows in their hair.

Step one, step two, step three, everyone.

And now we have officially begun.

Elegant jumps in the air

ending up who knows where.

Splits here and leaps there,

too great to compare.

And now the time has come.

They are dismissed the day is done.

The sun goes down,

Each dancer leaves without a sound.
