Right-hand and Left-hand Turning Tools – JV

JV is working his way through the high school shop class text that the godparent’s neighbor gave him.  He is very interested in machining and the processes involved in turning metal.  Here is a bit of the fruits of the labor.

Right-Hand and Left-Hand Turning Tools

The right-hand and left-hand turning tools are used for general machining.  They make the general shape of the object.  The right-hand tools’ cutting edge is on the right side and cuts from right to left.  The left-hand cutting edge is on the left side (of course) and cuts from left to right.

Right-Hand and Left-Hand Facing Tools

The right-hand and left-hand facing tools are used for guiding facing shoulders.  The right-had facing tool cuts from the right to the left.  The left-hand facing tool is an exact opposite of the right-hand facing tool.
